Fairytale Procida

Procida

Surely you’ve heard about the islands of Capri and Ischia, which belongs to popular holiday destinations in Italy. They are certainly beautiful islands and once I would like to visit it. But today’s article is about their lesser-known and popular “sister” Procida. It is the smallest island in the Gulf of Naples (population about 10 000 inhabitants).

When we planned our recent trip to Naples at the end of March (post here), I suggested that we could make the short trip to this island. My boyfriend agreed and even some of our friends joined us. On lovely Saturday morning we bought tickets at the port of Naples, the price for a one-way ticket is about 15 Euros (depending on the carrier, there are several types of ferry / speedboat) and the journey takes from 45 minutes to an hour.

The journey passed quickly (be prepared if you are seasick), someone was sleeping, someone (me) was trying to take pictures of well-known view of Procida from the approaching ship (unsuccessfully, the famous view is on the other side of the island, you know that expectations vs. reality 🙂 )

Our first steps led to the highest point – the fortress of Terra Murata, where you can enjoy views of the entire island. I really loved the pastel colored houses, which reminded me a little bit popular island of Burano near Venice. I can really recommend a visit in early April, there was a minimum of tourists and the sun felt so good – though not warm enough to swim in the sea.

After climbing the hill and millions photos (simply because of the view) we went to the small port of Corricella, where there are several restaurants that offer mostly fresh fish and seafood (but also Italian classics – pizza, pasta). We randomly chose the restaurant La Gorgonia, we sat outside and we had about a two-hours tasty lunch overlooking the sea.

After a delicious lunch we walked a bit around the island, we checked the local beach and then it was time to go back to Naples. This island has truly magical and relaxing atmosphere and I can imagine spending here few days of quiet holidays. What do you think about this place?

  1. I had never heard of Procida! Lol not that it means much! I loved all the photos though because it really gave me a sense of what it would be like to go there. And who knows, maybe I will someday now that I know about this beautiful little island!
